Getting Started

How to Subscribe and Play Workshop Maps

Workshop maps use Steam's built-in subscription system. No manual downloads, no file folders, no third-party tools needed.

Step 1

Find a map

Browse the Steam Workshop or our map guide. Open a map page you like.

Step 2

Click Subscribe

Hit the green Subscribe button on the map's Steam page. Steam downloads it automatically.

Step 3

Launch and play

Start Meccha Chameleon, create a server, and pick the map in your lobby's map settings.

Use Quick View (magnifying glass icon) to subscribe instead of opening the full map page.

Map not in lobby after subscribing

Restart Steam and the game. Make sure the download finished in Steam's download manager.

Friends can't join my custom map

Make sure everyone is on the same game version. v1.1.0+ requires matching versions for multiplayer.

Custom map lighting looks wrong

v1.1.0 disabled the default skylight on Workshop maps. The creator may need to add their own lighting.

Want to Make Your Own Custom Map?

Creating a Meccha Chameleon Workshop map requires Unreal Engine 5.6.1, the official mod kit, and SteamCMD for uploading. It's not beginner-friendly, but the community has detailed guides.

What you'll need

  • Unreal Engine 5.6.1 (exact version required)
  • Meccha Chameleon mod kit (provided by the developers)
  • SteamCMD for uploading finished maps to Workshop
